Fixed Width

A fixed width design is the most common type of layout you will find on the web. What this means is the web site will maintain the same width no matter what size screen it is viewed on. This is common because it generally requires simpler code compared to its counter part, liquid width.

Liquid Width

A liquid width design is called that for one simple reason. It adapts to shape of whatever container it is placed in, much like a liquid. What this really means is that no matter the screen resolution nor the size of the browser view port, the web site will fill the browser view port. These layouts cost slightly more than fixed layouts due to themore complex coding and extensive testing involved in the development process.

Fixed width layouts, by definition, have a fixed width, which often times will be smaller than the width of some monitors. We can align the entire layout either to the left, the right, or the center as per your request and at no additional charge.

We find that occasionally customers will want their web site to have a fixed layout out, but for any number of reasons are interested in having either their header, footer, or both fill the width of the screen. We, as always, are more than happy to accommodate.

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has laid out explicit guidelines for what is acceptable markup and styling for a web site. dreamupsidedown take standards very seriously. It is these standard that help maintain accessibility and efficiency across the Web. We provide W3C Valid XHTML and CSS code as a standard service, there is no additional charge for this level of compatibility.

Safari 2/3, OPERA, screen readers, etc.

When developing for the web there are many different variable to consider such as screen size, color depth, Internet connection speed, browser type, and browser version, just to name a few. There are so many combinations that it's not possible to target them all. dreamupsidedown attempts to design for the most popular combination, but some browser compatibility issues take a back seat to browsers with higher market share such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox. Web Content Accessibility Guidelines

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are part of a series of Web accessibility guidelines published by the W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative. They consist of a set of guidelines on making content accessible, primarily for disabled users, but also for all user agents, including highly limited devices, such as mobile phones.

Section 508 Compliance

In 1998, the US Congress amended the Rehabilitation Act to require Federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. Inaccessible technology interferes with an individual's ability to obtain and use information quickly and easily. dreamupsidedown is trained to develope Section 508 compliant web sites.

Having a custom favicon is just one of those minor things that will really make you site stand out. What is a favicon? A favicon is a small icon that appears in your browsers address bar to the left of the URL. It also will appear next to your site title when a user bookmarks your site. A lot of ink has been spilt over Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Many companies will claim to be able to make your site the highly in the search results of popular search engines like Google. Honestly, it is not possible to make such a garauntee. We can garauntee that code generated by dreamupsidedown will be as search engine friendly as possible, but what it really takes to appear as a top result in a search engine's result list is good content, that is relevant to the search query. A few other factors that will help your sites rank are the quality sites you link to, the quality sites that link back to you, and how often your site is updated, just to name a few.

Unordered List

Most common form of web navigation, where the navigation is marked up as an unordered list of links, afterall that's exactly what a web sites navigation is.

Definition List

Similar to an unordered list. The web site navigation is marked up as a definition which allows for explanations of each link for usability and/or SEO purposes.

DHTML Menu Navigation

Some navigation require sub navigation lists. A convenient and attractive way to create this is by using Dynamic HTML (DHTML) to create Drop Down or Fly Out navigation systems.

Table-Less

Building forms utilizing Cascading Style Sheets rather than HTML tables further separates style from HTML markup, making your site more accesible to its users. This is the default form style of dreamupsidedown.

Table-Based

Table-based forms use HTML tables to organize the form data. While this may get the job done, it makes you forms difficult to be viewed on mobile devices and screen readers. dreamupsidedown recommends using table-less form design but if the situation call for a table-based design we can certainly build it.

 

Definition List

Definition lists can be used in the style of forms, this would involing marking up each field as a definition term, each of which would have an explanation, and in turn increase usability and/or SEO.
